NDP backs Downtown Legal Services’ eviction ban call

TORONTO -The NDP critic for Tenant Rights Suze Morrison (Toronto Centre) made this statement in support of Downtown Legal Services' request to Toronto and Ontario's top doctors to order a ban on residential evictions during the pandemic:

"Thousands of people are facing eviction, or have already been thrown out of their home, in the freezing cold, in the middle of a pandemic. Ontario's eviction blitz is a health crisis.

Doug Ford has the power to ban residential evictions today, but he refuses to make an eviction ban a reality. He refuses to end the suffering of thousands of Ontarians.

That’s why we support the call from Downtown Legal Services to ask the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health to recommend a ban on evictions immediately."
