NDP calls for investigation after uncovering additional FH Health-linked donations to PCs

Natyshak asks Elections Ontario to look into political contributions preceding sole-sourced contract

QUEEN’S PARK — NDP Ethics critic Taras Natyshak is asking Elections Ontario to investigate after Ontario’s New Democrats uncovered an additional 10 donations to the Progressive Conservatives from people linked to FH Health in the few months before the company was awarded a sole-sourced contract.

The NDP revealed today that thousands of dollars in contributions flowed from donors having the same names as employees and family members of corporate directors at FH Health to the PC Party, just prior to the government handing the company a sole-sourced contract to help deliver COVID-19 vaccinations at several clinics. The fresh revelations follow reporting by Queen’s Park Today that found corporate directors at FH Health made maximum contributions themselves around the same time. This brings the total of donations to the Progressive Conservatives by people with the same names as those with ties to FH Health to $42,600.

“It simply defies belief that this many people with ties to the same company would independently decide to make maximum donations to Doug Ford’s party at the same time in the same amount,” said Natyshak. “The more we learn about this situation, the more it stinks, which is why I’m asking Elections Ontario to investigate.”

Section 19 of Ontario’s Elections Finances Act forbids contributions that come from corporations or groups of people and prohibits parties from knowingly accepting this type of illicit donation.

Natyshak has previously written to the Auditor General to request an investigation into the awarding of the sole-sourced contract to FH Health, after the company was incorporated on Oct. 5, 2020.
