NDP calls for Williams to appear at emergency management committee

QUEEN’S PARK — The NDP is calling for Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams to attend the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight on Tuesday to explain if and why he has recommended delay after delay in taking action.

“Again and again, we’re seeing Doug Ford choose to do too little, too late — including his choice to withhold modelling data we know he’s seen, and delay or refuse the public health protections that should have been implemented long ago,” said NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh. “We are living through a longer, deeper and broader lockdown, with more agony and tragic loss, because Doug Ford keeps choosing not to invest in urgent, effective protections.”

The Emergency Management Oversight committee is the body tasked with reviewing Ford’s emergency orders, which are made unilaterally behind closed doors thanks to powers Ford gave himself.

“Dr. Williams needs to appear before the committee to explain whether he is recommending these delays, and why,” said Singh.
