TORONTO — Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and Toronto-St. Paul's NDP MPP Jill Andrew released the following statement in response to a series of acts of antisemitic vandalism across the city in the last 24 hours, including at Beth Sholom Synagogue in Toronto-St.Paul’s:
"It is painful and disturbing to learn of a series of acts of antisemitic vandalism across the GTA, including at a place of worship — especially as these incidents come on the heels of the antisemitic defacement of posters of Jewish federal candidates in Montreal.
These are disgusting and cowardly acts of antisemitic, white supremacist hatred. Our hearts go out to Jewish communities across the GTA, Ontario and Canada, who have been facing a rising tide of antisemitism, violence, and hatred. But it’s not only a time for solidarity, it’s a time for action.
There is no place for antisemitism and white supremacy in our city, our province, or our country. Governments must act urgently to stamp out antisemitism and white supremacy wherever they occur. Meaningful action is long overdue."
