KINGSTON – Ian Arthur (Kingston and the Islands) will not seek re-election in 2022. He released the following statement:
“I will not be seeking re-election in 2022. Representing the people of Kingston and the Islands at Queen’s Park has been an incredible experience. The depth of involvement in the community is a privilege. I have been lucky to meet the most dedicated, resilient and creative people, and I will ever be thankful for this opportunity. I am humbled to have worked with and learned from the incredible group of people that is the Ontario NDP Caucus. Thank you to Andrea Horwath for her leadership and dedication to the people of Ontario.
The past three years, including the pandemic, have also at times been challenging and brought into focus what is most important to me. I am deeply grateful for all the people who have supported me and our vision for Kingston. I look forward to continuing to work, as a private citizen, to help resolve the issues that trouble our community, especially housing, the doctor shortage and the climate crisis. I will be stepping back to pursue business opportunities in Kingston.
I will continue to represent the riding at Queen’s Park until the next election is called. The constituency office in the Lasalle Mews will continue to serve the people of Kingston and the Islands as normal. Lastly I would like to thank my dedicated staff; Kate, Greg, Janice, Heather, Val have done such tremendous work for this community and made this job that much more fulfilling.”
