NDP MPP Rakocevic calling to preserve Marian Shrine of Gratitude

QUEEN’S PARK – Ontario NDP MPP Tom Rakocevic (Humber River – Black Creek) has written to Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and Michael Ford, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, with an urgent plea to use the Ontario Heritage Act and issue a stop order for the destruction of the Marian Shrine of Gratitude.

The Shrine, located at 3100 Weston Road, is a culturally and religiously significant site for thousands of residents across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond seeking a place to pray, meditate and peacefully gather.

“This Shrine represents countless hours of dedication and love from volunteers, believers, and patrons who care deeply about maintaining a place of peace and worship here in our community,” said Rakocevic. “Community members are distraught at the news of the Shrine’s demolition, and we must do everything we can to listen to the community and protect this shrine. I hope that the Government will quickly address this issue and work collaboratively to provide an urgent solution.”
