QUEEN’S PARK – The Ontario NDP are calling for answers after a vulnerable boy died at school after allegedly being left alone in the classroom.
“Every child who goes to school in the morning should come home safely at the end of the day,” said Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Napean), NDP critic for Education. “It is every parent’s worst nightmare that something will happen to our children at school and now that worst nightmare has come true for Landyn’s mom, Brenda Davis. She deserves answers and accountability.”
“This is a profound tragedy, and my heart goes out to Landyn’s family and entire community,” said Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain), NDP critic for Children, Community, and Social Services. “Words fail at moments like this. An unthinkable tragedy like this should never take place, and we need to understand how it happened – and how we can ensure it never happens again.”
“We don’t need to wait for the results of the investigation into Landyn’s death to take immediate steps to make children safer at school,” said Pasma. “Parents of children with special needs have been advocating for years for the resources needed to make sure their children are safe and supported at school. Properly investing in our schools and in special education, making sure that children are supported by caring, qualified adults in the classroom and in every part of the school, will make children safer and help to prevent further nightmare situations.”
