NDP pleased Elections Ontario deems fishy attack ads violation of Act: NDP

QUEEN'S PARK — The Ontario NDP's critic for Ethics and Accountability, Taras Natyshak, issued the following statement after news that Ontario's Chief Electoral Officer has deemed newspaper ads that attacked teachers and unions, and were attributed to a group with ties to the Conservative party, to be in violation of Ontario's Elections Finances Act:

"Ontarians deserve to know who shelled out serious money for newspaper ads that attacked teachers amid ongoing labour disruption caused by Doug Ford's cuts to education. When the ads were published back in February, I was among those that called on Elections Ontario to investigate the ads and who's behind them, believing that Vaughan Working Families looked like a shell group.

I’m pleased to see that Elections Ontario has deemed these extremely fishy ads to be in violation of Ontario's Elections Finances Act. Ontarians deserve transparency, and third party advertisers need to play by the rules.

Doug Ford can't simply look away while his buddies use PC Party messaging to further Ford's agenda of cuts."
