NDP presses Ford for vaccine mandate for all health and education workers

SUDBURY – The Ontario NDP is once again demanding that Doug Ford finally bring in mandatory vaccines for health care and education workers, after a Radio-Canada investigation found that only one hospital in the province opposed the vaccine mandate. Minister of Health Christine Elliott claimed that multiple hospitals in the province had opposed the mandate. NDP health critic France Gélinas released the following statement:

“Thank you to Radio-Canada for revealing that only one hospital in the province opposed the vaccine mandate, despite claims from the Ford government that many had.

Thank you to the many hospitals that have brought in their own vaccine mandate to protect their staff and their patients.

Doug Ford decided to embolden anti-vaxxers instead of listening to hospitals and public health officials. Thanks to Mr. Ford, the province requires a vaccine certificate to eat a hamburger in a diner in Ontario, but not to work in a pediatric intensive care unit with unvaccinated and incredibly vulnerable children. People deserve better protection than that.

Now that we have confirmation that nearly every hospital supports a vaccine mandate, let’s get that mandate in place right now for all health care and all education workers — and let’s make all three doses currently available a part of that mandate, including booster shots.”
