NDP’s Monteith-Farrell calls for action to save Bombardier jobs

QUEEN’S PARK – During question period Thursday, NDP MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell (Thunder Bay–Atikokan) called on Doug Ford to stop sitting on his hands while Bombardier workers are laid off in Thunder Bay.

“Lay-offs at the Bombardier plant are coming next month to Thunder Bay. The Ford government has not offered a real solution. Hundreds of families across my riding are facing uncertainty and hard times. Doug Ford needs to step up to help the workers at Bombardier keep their jobs,” said Monteith-Farrell.

Bombardier is a major employer in the Northwest, and the lack of procurement from the Liberals and then the Conservatives left the plant without contracts, even as Ontario is supposedly expanding transit, and in need of transit cars.

"Jurisdictions across the globe have found ways to keep production local, but so far there has been no real action by this government to save the plant,” said Monteith-Farrell. "It’s time for Doug Ford to stop sitting on his hands, and take action now to keep the Bombardier plant open, and provide certainty to workers and their families.”
