NDP’s Tabuns calls for accountability as Conservatives push law raising energy bills

QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition NDP Energy and Climate Action critic Peter Tabuns (Toronto – Danforth) is calling for a value-for-money audit into the Conservative government’s decision to raise Enbridge customers’ energy bills.

“Ontario’s energy future needs to be affordable, reliable, and sustainable,” said Tabuns. “Instead of working on securing that, Ford’s Conservatives are forcing laws that will increase people’s energy bills in favour of Enbridge. Why? People deserve to know the environmental and financial impact of this.”

Tabuns will be presenting a motion this coming Monday at the Standing Committee on Public Accounts calling for a value-for-money audit into the controversial Bill 165 that reverses the energy regulator’s decision to protect consumers from being overcharged by Enbridge.
