NDP shows who they’re working for in first campaign ads

TORONTO — “I’m running for premier — to work for you,” says NDP Leader Andrea Horwath in the NDP’s first opening ad.

Titled “Hard Work,” that ad features images of real Ontarians who support Horwath, at work and play in their daily lives. Horwath is featured in the ad, speaking about her motivation.

“My dad was an auto worker. Mom cleaned schools at night,” says Horwath in the ad. “I learned about hard work from them. They taught me when something’s broken, we roll up our sleeves and fix it. It’s why I’ve fought for workers, for families, ever since.

“I’ll work to fix health care instead of cutting it. Fix seniors care instead of neglecting it. And bring down the costs families face every day.”

Another ad, Ping Pong, released by the NDP shows two ping pong players as standins for the Liberal and Conservative parties. While they bat a ping pong ball back and forth, Horwath and the NDP step in to “change the game.”

The NDP ads launch on the day the writ is dropped, and will be on screens all over the province including TV, digital, social and Connected TV. The NDP will be releasing more ads throughout the campaign, including ads in other languages.

The party will be able to run a full schedule of ads thanks to donations that are breaking its own records. Since Jan. 1 the party has raised $2.85 million — a whopping 78 per cent increase over the same days in 2018.
