NDP Transit critic slams privatized Ontario Line delay

QUEEN’S PARK - Ontario NDP transit critic, Jessica Bell, released the following statement in response to a Toronto Star news report that found that Doug Ford’s privatized Ontario Line project is likely to miss its target 2027 completion date.

“The Ford government ripped up a shovel ready relief line plan to go back to the drawing board, setting transit construction back years. Ford is learning the hard way that it’s easy to draw lines on a map, but it’s much harder to actually build transit.

Hiring multiple private P3 conglomerates is a disaster waiting to happen. The Eglinton Crosstown project has already shown that privatized infrastructure delivery costs more and takes longer. Building transit using the public sector means Ontario can build now without delay, hire locally, and help our economy recover.

If Doug Ford truly cares about the city’s transit riders he should stop the service cuts and job losses by providing critical funding to transit operations now.”
