NDP welcomes investigation into unjust French language programming cuts at Laurentian

KAPUSKASING – NDP critic for Francophone Affairs Guy Bourgouin, and NDP MPP for Sudbury Jamie West, issued the following statement in response to an announcement that Ontario’s French Language Services Commission will investigate the cuts to French programs at Laurentian University:

“New Democrats welcome the French Language Commissioner’s investigation into the unacceptable cuts of French programming at Laurentian University.

By failing to provide necessary supports to Laurentian University, Premier Doug Ford, Minister Carolyn Mulroney and Minister Ross Romano have ignored their duty to protect French language education in Ontario guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Ford government must immediately act to restore French language programming with immediate financial support so that francophones across northern Ontario, and the entire province, can continue their studies in French.

It’s not too late for Premier Ford to do the right thing to protect French language education.”
