Ontario NDP’s MPP Armstrong to Ford: stop delaying affordable childcare.

QUEEN'S PARK – NDP Childcare Critic Teresa Armstrong (London-Fanshawe) is calling out Ford for repeated delays in delivering the long-promised funding to make $10 a day child care a reality:

“Repeated delays in releasing the new funding formula have led to severe repercussions for non-profit centres and childcare providers,” said Armstrong. “These delays have already resulted in closures and reduced operational capacity across the province. Enough is enough. Families need to know when affordable childcare will be available.”

The Ford government has given three different deadline for having a cost-based system in place. Their most recent update was 2025 - far too long for families to wait.

“Childcare providers cannot continue to wait for updates,” said Armstrong. “They need certainty and transparency to continue doing critical work for our community. They need a government they can trust – not more empty promises.”

Ontario signed the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) agreement almost two years ago, which promised desperately needed improvements to the childcare system. It has yet to be fully implemented.
