“This is outrageous”: NDP responds to Eglinton LRT vehicles getting too old to operate after years of delays

TORONTO – NDP Shadow Minister for Public Transit Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest) issued the following statement in response to the Eglinton LRT Crosstown being delayed due to its aging vehicles.

“This is outrageous. We've been given excuse after excuse, and now the LRT can’t open because the LRT vehicles are getting too old,” MPP Begum said.

“After more than a decade and years of delays, the LRT vehicles are too old to safely transport people. That’s how long it's been since the LRT was supposed to open -- so long that the vehicles can’t operate properly anymore.

“Metrolinx has proven time and time again that it cannot be trusted with tax-payer dollars to deliver transit that people need.

“People are sick and tired of waiting for the safe and reliable transit they need-- and they have every right to be. They deserve to see the results and get the services from the billions of tax-payer dollars spent on this project. Enough excuses, enough delays.”
