OTTAWA – Chandra Pasma, the Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Education, is calling on the Ford government to reverse course on their political games and invest in our classrooms after reports show that a majority of Ontarians are not buying Calandra’s political games and want to see more investments in our classrooms:
“It’s clear no one is buying what Doug Ford is selling. Parents see right through this government’s blatant power grab and partisan games, and they know this government does not have our kids’ best interests at heart.
“Parents understand that the real crisis in our schools isn’t trustees; it’s the billions that Ford has cut from our classrooms. They’re not fooled by this government’s attempt to distract from chronic underfunding by attacking the democratically elected trustees who give parents and communities a voice in their local schools.
“Ontarians also know that replacing transparent, accountable local representation with a government-appointed insider who refuses to listen and won't be held accountable will do nothing to fix the challenges facing our kids. In fact, it will only worsen our already crumbling education system.
“These attacks on school boards are not only calculated attempts to sell public assets to developers, but they are also deeply unpopular, even among Conservative voters. It’s a wake-up call for Ford and Calandra to end the political games, respect democracy, and finally invest in the schools our kids deserve.”
