Preservation of key Ontario Place sites a win for community advocates: NDP

TORONTO — Spadina—Fort York NDP MPP Chris Glover said the preservation of historic Ontario Place sites, announced Thursday by the Ford government, is a hard-earned step in the right direction, thanks to community advocates who have been pushing the government to keep these sites intact:

"Thursday's commitment by the Ford government to preserve historic Ontario Place features The Cinesphere, pods, Trillium Park and the William G. Davis Trail is a win for the community members and grassroots groups like Ontario Place for All, whose passionate advocacy has led to the preservation of these historic sites.

Doug Ford's previous call for private partners to redevelop Ontario Place and disinterest in public and municipal consultation on the future of Ontario Place remain a threat to this vital public asset.

The Ontario NDP will continue to fight for Ontario Place to remain publicly accessible, with changes driven by public, rather than commercial, interests. All proposed changes must be subject to a thorough and comprehensive public review and robust public consultation."
