Ramadan Mubarak from the Official Opposition

Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement on the start of Ramadan:

“On the first day of Ramadan, I want to extend our best wishes for a reflective and holy month to Muslims across Ontario, and around the world. May this month bring opportunities for devotion, worship and time with loved ones and community.

May Ramadan’s messages of humility, empathy and compassion inspire all Ontarians to work to build a society that is inclusive of everyone, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or place of origin.

Ontario’s New Democrats will continue to stand against the vile rise of Islamophobia in Ontario and worldwide. We are committed to doing the work to stamp out expressions of hatred and discrimination, as well as hate crimes and violence that target our Muslim sisters and brothers.

New Democrats are proud of our strong relationships with Muslim communities across Ontario. We’re proud to be the party that worked with the Muslim community to establish Islamic Heritage Month in Ontario, and we pledge to keep listening and learning, so that we can be strong allies in condemning Islamophobia and fostering a diverse and inclusive society.
