Ross Romano must step up for child care in Sault Ste. Marie

ELLIOT LAKE - Algoma-Manitoulin NDP MPP Michael Mantha released the following statement following news of the closure of the early learning child care centre at Sault College due to financial difficulties:

“Young families are already worried about how to get back to work and school as we recover from COVID-19’s impact. The closure of the Sault College early learning centre is only going to make this challenge so much harder for moms and dads.

Ross Romano is the minister of Colleges and Universities in the Ford government, and he should be standing up for families in the Sault. He can use his power as minister to support child care in the city, and to make early learning and child care centres a priority at colleges and universities across the province. Instead, he’s done nothing at all.

Child care centres in Sault Ste. Marie need the Ford government’s financial support to deal with the COVID-19 crisis, and they need it now.

Ross Romano needs to step up to help struggling families in the city, not just turn his back and leave them in the lurch.”
