For a second day, Ford refuses to denounce white supremacist

Extreme right mayoral candidate is pushing Ford Fest photo as endorsement

For the second day in a row, New Democrats have urged Doug Ford to denounce extreme right mayoral candidate Faith Goldy, who had her photo taken with Ford at a PC Party event on Saturday and shared it on social media saying “Faith Nation IS Ford Nation.” But again, Ford has refused to denounce the extreme right candidate with ties to neo-Nazi organizations.

“Yesterday, Ford was asked if he would stand up in this house and denounce the extreme views of Faith Goldy, a candidate for mayor of Toronto and neo-Nazi sympathizer, whom the premier posed for photos with over the weekend,” said NDP Deputy Leader John Vanthof in question period on Tuesday. “Mr. Ford refused two opportunities to condemn Ms. Goldy’s views yesterday.

“This is the woman who appeared on a white supremacist podcast and said she ‘salutes’ the neo-Nazi hosts for showing up ‘in hordes’ to a rally in Charlottesville, North Carolina. That would be the same Unite the Right rally where a white supremacist drove his car into the crowd, murdering one woman and injuring 19 others.”

Goldy and her supporters have been spreading the photo on social media as a de facto endorsement from Ford. Yet Ford again refused -- three times -- to say he denounces Goldy and her white supremacist views, or that his photo with her is not an endorsement of her fringe candidacy for mayor of Toronto.

“People need to hear from your mouth that you do not endorse Faith Goldy,” said Vanthof to Ford. “You need to say her name. You need to say that you do not endorse her and that you denounce her neo-Nazi politics. Can’t you do that?”
