Small, grassroots donations delivered impressive second quarter for Horwath’s NDP

ETOBICOKE — Everyday Ontarians are chipping in a few of their hard-earned dollars to get rid of Doug Ford and elect Andrea Horwath in 2022, and that’s adding up to impressive figures. The NDP’s internal count for the second quarter of 2021 shows its highest-ever second quarter in a non-election year.

Internal numbers show the NDP raised $1.16 million in between April and June. The NDP’s internal numbers include donations under $200 — which are now hidden from regular Elections Ontario reporting, thanks to changes by the Doug Ford government.

Elections Ontario shows that Ford’s PC Party raised $2.1 million in the second quarter of 2021. Steven Del Duca’s Liberals raised $206,000.

“Doug Ford is holding a steady stream of $1,000-a-plate, cash-for-access fundraisers, just like the Liberals used to,” said Ontario NDP Provincial Director Lucy Watson. “In total contrast, the NDP raised its funding in 2020 from more than 90,000 individual, small donations — more donations than all the other parties combined. Something special is happening. People are seeing three very different leaders running for premier in 2022, and they’re rallying together with Andrea Horwath.”
