Statement from Andrea Horwath on Cindy Forster

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath issued the following statement regarding Welland MPP Cindy Forster’s announcement that she will not be seeking re-election in the 2018 provincial election:

“For seven years, Cindy Forster has been a tireless advocate for her community, and for all hard-working Ontarians. She has fought day-in and day-out to protect working families, preserve our environment, and to build a safer and more just Ontario for everyone. In her long career in nursing and public service, Cindy has focused on the issues that matter to Ontario families, and worked every day to offer hope to those that need it most.

Her voice – as both a skillful legislator and passionate community advocate – will be sorely missed at Queen’s Park. From affordable housing, to pay equity, to fighting for better labour protections for all workers, Cindy's efforts to make life better for Ontario workers and families will go on, thanks to the solid foundation she's laid.

No matter how important the work, family has to come first, and I fully support Cindy's decision to be with her family at this time. On behalf of all New Democrats, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Cindy for her years of service to Ontarians, and best wishes as she prepares for the next chapter in her life.”
