Statement from NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the 39th Holocaust Education Week

QUEEN’S PARK—The Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath made the following statement to mark the start of the 39th annual Holocaust Education Week:

“Holocaust Education Week is an important opportunity for people reflect on the horrors of the Holocaust and the devastating impacts it has had on survivors, their descendants and on Jewish communities worldwide, and to ensure the next generation has an education and understanding of those atrocities.

Through its thoughtful exhibits, programs, conversation and performances, Holocaust Education Week offers people of all backgrounds and ages a chance to engage with a history that must never be forgotten.

Holocaust Education Week’s 2019 theme, The Holocaust and Now, examines how the Holocaust intersects with current events and the ongoing suppression of freedoms; and how, at a time of rising global anti-Semitism and hate crimes against Jewish communities, Holocaust education remains deeply relevant.

The Ontario NDP is committed to ensuring that Holocaust education remains robust and meaningful, and that the atrocities of the Holocaust are never forgotten."
