Statement from NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the declaration of the State of Emergency

I’m relieved, and supportive of the decision to declare a provincial State of Emergency. These are unprecedented times, and Queen’s Park needs to take unprecedented actions to protect and support Ontarians.

The Official Opposition continues to await details of financial support to help people through this, including those who will see their income eliminated or dramatically reduced during this pandemic if we don’t take action. Waged workers, those working in the gig economy, and small and medium-sized businesses and community-based organizations, plus their staff, need immediate support to make it through this emergency.

As always, I want to thank public health and health care workers who have been providing protection and care, and still have long, difficult days ahead.

Ontario, we are all in this together, and we will get through it together.
