Statement by NDP Transit critic Jessica Bell regarding Ford Government’s GO service announcement

Jessica Bell, the NDP critic for Transit, issued the following statement regarding Minister Yakabuski’s recent GO service announcement:

“The Ford government is trying to take credit for a GO expansion that was a done deal before they even won the election. Meanwhile, it's clear that with Mr. Ford, every project not yet complete is now under review, and in jeopardy -- and commuters and families are very concerned about that.

After 15 years of Liberal inaction the Ford government seems bound and determined to drag Ontario’s transit system even further back. They have repeatedly refused to confirm that they won’t be scrapping the planned all-day two-way GO services that Hamilton, Kitchener and Niagara have been eagerly awaiting and desperately need.

Likewise, the Ford government refuses to confirm if they will go ahead with the planned $3 co-fare. A project that will get cars off the road, ease congestion while making life more affordable for everyday commuters and their families.

Instead of addressing the real transit issues facing commuters in Ontario, this government remains focused on pie-in-the-sky initiatives such as building subways to Pickering. They're all bragging and no building.”
