Statement from Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Ontario’s New Democrats are proud to stand with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and allies around the world in the fight against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia.

The reality is that too many members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community still face discrimination and hostility in their daily lives, from hidden prejudice limiting their access to services and employment, to all-too-real threats of violence.

As community members and allies, New Democrats are proud to champion LGBTQIA2S+ rights in Ontario. In office, our members have led the fight to ban conversion therapy, entrench gender identity protections in the Human Rights Code, and mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance at Queen’s Park. And in this election we are proud to have 8 candidates who identify as members of the community, including trans and non-binary candidates.

Today, and every day, we mourn those we have lost, and celebrate the victories we have won. And we remind ourselves that much work remains to be done, until all Ontarians can live without fear of prejudice or violence.
