Stiles: Another day, another chaotic Conservative U-turn

QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, released the following statement in response to another chaotic Conservative U-turn that will see a reversal of the Ford-Crombie deal to dissolve Peel Region and the revocation of sketchy MZOs:

“Another day, another chaotic policy reversal from Ontario’s corrupt Conservatives. Thank goodness they’re reversing these terrible plans, but the question everyone should be asking themselves is: why did they make them in the first place?

“This has become a seriously concerning pattern from Ford – make a deal with insider friends, consult no one, ram through legislation, then backtrack.In this case, Mr. Ford & Ms. Crombie used the people of Peel as pawns in some bizarre political chess game. The livelihoods of Peel workers are not a game.

“Ford has created months of stress and uncertainty for workers in Peel region who don’t know if their jobs are secure. People in Peel region have been worried about how the services they count on will be delivered and if their taxes will skyrocket. He’s wasted an entire year that could have been spent working to actually address the housing affordability crisis.

“With every passing day, it becomes clearer and clearer - we can’t afford another two years of this Conservative chaos.”

In one of the final Question Periods of 2023, Stiles challenged Ford to cancel his bad deal for Peel.
