QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of Ontario’s Official Opposition, has introduced an opposition motion calling on Doug Ford to protect Ontario’s renters. The Opposition Day motion calls for fairness in the Landlord Tenant Board to stop unfair evictions and above-guideline rent hikes. It also calls on the Ford government to repeal Bill 60.
"This is about making life more affordable for Ontarians,” said Stiles. “Ontario is facing a jobs disaster, but Doug Ford is more focused on attacking renters and making housing even more expensive.”
“Ontario is dead last nationally in home-building,” said Shadow Housing Minister Catherine McKenney. “Why is the Premier trying to kick people out of their homes, instead of rapidly building affordable new ones? Instead of listening to people, Doug Ford shut down debate and rammed through Bill 60. We are bringing a motion to force a debate, because the people deserve to have their voices heard."
“The people will not be silenced,” added Stiles. “We’ve seen Ontarians across the province use their voices and organize against Bill 60. With our motion, we will keep up the pressure and tell Doug Ford; repeal Bill 60, bring in real rent control, end bad faith evictions, and build affordable housing."
