Toronto families deserve a revitalized waterfront, not more Ford insiders: NDP

Toronto Danforth NDP MPP Peter Tabuns released the following statement regarding the firing of the Chair of Waterfront Toronto and government appointed board members:

“Doug Ford has schemed to get his hands on Toronto’s waterfront for years. Now, we’re concerned that Ford will use these three firings and three vacancies to stack the leadership of Waterfront Toronto with his insider friends so he can fully control waterfront development.

People deserve to know if Ford has a plan for Toronto’s precious waterfront he’s keeping secret, and they want to know if they’re getting ripped off in the process.
Just last month, an invaluably located 16-hectare waterfront property was sold off for a rock-bottom price of $16 million, to a company run by long-time Ford family friend and donor, Mario Cortellucci.

And Ontario families are already being forced to pony up millions of dollars for Ford’s sweet patronage appointments of his friends — including Rueben Devlin, Gavin Tighe and Ian Todd. Ford also signed off on the installation of his pal Ron Taverner as OPP Commissioner — a massive promotion for Taverner that left questions about Ford’s role in the process.

Where the last Liberal government let us down with waterfront projects that were delayed, underfunded and grossly lacking in oversight, Doug Ford and his friends will make things even worse with they’re scheming. The waterfront is a gem that belongs to the people — and the people deserve better."
