WSIB funds must be used to support injured workers: Gates

NIAGARA – NDP Workplace Safety critic Wayne Gates released the following statement in response to Doug Ford’s plan to transfer Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) funds to employers:

“In Ontario today, nearly half of injured workers are living in poverty. Despite the incredible hardship injured workers face every single day, Ford is focused on sending the funds held by WSIB back to employers, instead of using them to support workers trying to rebuild their lives after a workplace injury.

Getting injured at work in Ontario can be devastating for workers and their families. An injury should not be a sentence to live in poverty, and yet this Government continues to ignore the fact that for many workers that is the reality. Ford must use WSIB funds to help the workers who need it most.”
