For years, Wynne made childcare more expensive

Childcare announcement doesn't help women return to work

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said Tuesday that for 15 years, the Liberal government drove up the price of child care – only to announce in a last-ditch effort a plan that would only apply to some children.

“Ontarians don’t trust Kathleen Wynne to follow through on her promises anymore,” said Horwath. “She drove up the price of childcare in Ontario until it was the most expensive in the nation. If she was really going to make childcare more affordable, she would have done it already.”

Wynne's plan applies only to a less-expensive age group and only for a short period of time.

“Ontarians are desperate for relief when it comes to childcare. Lowering costs for anyone would be a welcome change – but this is not going to help women who want to return to work after parental leave. Families need a program that helps more than just those with children from two-and-a-half to about four years old.

“Ontarians deserve change for the better. That means a government that works to lower the cost of child care before, and after an election.”
